The Boy in the Red Waistcoat (Bührle)

Red as axiom: colour is the subject. A teenager facing us, hands joined, in a waistcoat that makes the whole painting (1888/1890, 79.5 × 64 cm, Bührle, Zurich). The exhibition's version; Modigliani kept a reproduction of it in his pocket.

This work appears in the Grand Palais exhibition 'Cezanne et nous' (23 September 2026 – 17 January 2027).
