The Japanese Bridge

The last motif: a bridge between two worlds, painted almost blind. A green arch over the pond, mingled reflections, a free touch (1918–1924, 89 × 116 cm, Marmottan inv. 5106). The threshold of the garden-world, painted through cataracts: time, dissolved into colour.

This work features in the Orangerie retrospective 'Monet, Painting Time' (30 September 2026 – 25 January 2027).
