The Servant Girl, or At the Barrier

Before Manet: at eighteen, she already paints like a master. A servant girl at the barrier, painted between 1865 and 1870, before meeting Manet. A small canvas (41 × 32.5 cm) with studio stamp, pre-empted at Christie's in 2021 by the Petit Palais itself: it opens the retrospective like a promise.
